Move over American Idol, the hit Jewish DVD series is looking for its own undiscovered talent.
Pittsburgh, PA, March 14, 2008
Reel Jewish Entertainment, producers of the hit DVD video series "The Adventures of Agent Emes" have announced that a nationwide search is now underway to find the next child actor to fill the role of the crime-fighting secret agent, in episodes being made this summer in Pittsburgh.
Leibel Cohen, the creator and producer of the groundbreaking action-adventure series, explains that Agent Emes has devoted fans all over the country, and everyone should have a chance to participate. "Why assume the next Agent Emes is coming from Brooklyn," Cohen said. "Maybe he'll be from Florida, Chicago, or even Hollywood, California."
Cohen has posted a portion of the next Agent Emes script online, and is asking any 9 to 11 year-old boy who would like to try out, to perform the role in front of a video camera and send the results to him by mail, or post the results online on the Jewish version of youtube, called yideoz.com. "We're going to harness the power of the internet and video technology to bring the candidates here electronically," explains Cohen.
The series was started in 2003, and has produced five episodes to date. The DVDs sell in Judaica stores around the world, as well as over the web via Amazon and other online retailers. Agent Emes is also one of the featured series on Shalom TV, the first Jewish cable station being carried coast to coast through Comcast VOD. As a result, Agent Emes has become a household name in countless Jewish communities around the world.
The original Agent Emes was played by Cohen's son, Sholom Ber, who has since moved on to learning full time at yeshiva. "Basically, he outgrew the hat," says Cohen, "and when he started to grow a mustache of his own, we knew it was over."
Submissions of video auditions will be accepted through April 25, 2008.
