Story of Two Houses

				HOUSE # 1: A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. A pool (and a pool house), and a separate guest house all heated by gas. In one month this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. 				HOUSE # 2: Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university, this house incorporates every "green" feature current home construction can provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape. HOUSE # 2 (model eco-friendly house) is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas. Also known as "the Texas White House," it is the private residence of the President of the United States, George W. Bush. You are already assuming that they are "facts that have been
found out", rather than something that has been made up.
If you admit that they are "out to get Gore", then you have to
admit that they have a bigger burden of proof - more than just
their say so. A burden that they have already dropped, by the
looks of all the things they left out (for starters).

I checked. So did Snopes. Plus, I know a few things about these old houses.

So, does Gore have 20 times the average number of people in that house, or just 10 times? (I do hope that he's allowed to install those solar panels... although they're a net energy loser, too. But if this is to change, someone has to keep buying those things.)

Yes, Snopes.Com did check - and nowhere do they endorse the "20 times"
figure. In fact, they say that "Other factors...make the Gore's energy
home usage comparable to other homes in the same area." Even though
other homes in the area are considerably smaller - as per the same
report.

And I'm sure he did nothing he wasn't allowed, or that would
have been reported on ages ago.

*I* endorse it. It's about 17 times the national average, based on my numbers.

"Comparable to other homes in the same area" doesn't square with the 12-times figure for Nashville. Moreover, this is Belle Meade, the old money area. All homes there are like that - large and wasteful.

And I'm also sure Gore didn't do anything illegal. All this is mostly beside the point.

Oh, YOU endorse it "based on your numbers"?
Well, I don't, based on mine.
How's that?
Even "your numbers" don't jibe with the numbers you
say you endorse.

First off, the "times the national average" is one
of the basis for deception.
If you went per square footage, you'd have to change
"your numbers".

And "your numbers" vary with whatever point you are
trying to counter.
OT1H, you say that you can;t compare his homes to
others in the area, but then OTOH, you turn around &
o just that when you want to lump them in together
with the "large & wasteful" homes that you've
decided you know all about.

The upshot is that he's recycled an old home for his
needs and has modified it to be green - and doubtless
the "report" was made before he'd even finished getting
clearances for everything he's wanted to do. The group
that made the "report" has been found out to be unreliable
at best.
