Just got a letter from our daughter's Beis Yaakov school informing us that they have hired a General Studies principal. She used to be same at Torah Academy of Chicago. Sounds like a nice frum lady.

The letter boasts of her degrees, including a graduate one from Columbia University. Hmm...

Mrs. G was the best. Anyone else is a step down. :(

Nothing per se - it just illustrates our Boston specifics. Here, unlike some other places, an advanced college degree is considered an asset in an Orthodox school teacher.

She's principal of /general studies/, so an advanced college degree /is/ an asset, isn't it?

By me it is, but there are places where it is believed to be an indication of non-kosher thinking, especially in a woman.

Oh my, this is so much not kosher and not tzniusdik !
She'll teach them that it is ok to go to the university instead of staying home and making children.

Meaning, the school didn't have a secular studies principal before?

This is good, especially if the school is large. When ds's school did the same, the difference was very noticable. From poor they've mooved on to great! (at least 1 through 3 grades that ds did so far.)
